Self service laundries are often referred to as Laundromats, or coin laundries. Self service Laundromats consist of commercial-grade, self service laundry equipment typically located in a retail space, near or in residential communities. However, retail self service laundries are only one part of the self service laundry industry; coin-operated laundry equipment is also located in residential apartment housing. This portion of the industry is also known as the coin route business, or the multi-housing laundry business. Self service laundries often purchase their laundry equipment from wholesale sources, where they can obtain laundry equipment in the quantities necessary for their business, at advantageous pricing.
